1st StartUp Borneo Pre-Pitching Hosted at International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak

KUCHING (1 July 2018): On June 30th, StartUp Borneo held its first pre-pitching session of startups or a brief oral description of projects for investors. It is being set up as a startup community platform and a chance for startups to:

  1. Pitch new ideas and showcase innovative solution to specialists in Sarawak especially for digital technology applications.
  2. Receive constructive feedback from Ministry such as Ministry of International Trade and e-Commerce (MITeC), International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (ICATS) as a Higher Education institution, industry players such as Digital Economy Hub and others.
  3. To match potential partners and obtain financing or matching grant for the participants of StartUp Borneo.

StartUp Borneo invited startup founders of unique projects, product developers from SMEs (Small-Medium Enterprises), B2B (Business-to-Business), and B2C (Business-to-Consumer) companies with initial ideas and innovations to take part in the StartUp Borneo pitching sessions. All candidates required to present their products or services to investors, government ministries and industry players. The preference was given to projects that could bring impact to the community in Borneo and especially a ready prototype with an established team. For this year StartUp Borneo announced 10 project categories:

• Smart City

• Industry 4.0

• e-Commerce and Blockchain/Fintech

• Creative Arts and Design

• Smart Manufacturing

• Smart Logistics

• Smart Agriculture

• Smart Fishing Community

• Smart Healthcare

• Renewable Energy

Pre-pitching duration was set to 10 minutes for each presentation and 4 minutes for questions and answers with judges. Projects were evaluated by venture companies, accelerators, business angels as well as by representative from private and government sectors.
