KUCHING: Sarawak is keen to seek the help of Malaysian Technology Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (MTDC) in managing the state’s Agriculture Venture Capital (AVC) fund.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said this during a courtesy call by MTDC officials on him at his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday.

The visiting MTDC delegation was led by its Corporate Services Division officer Mohammad Farish Nizar Othman.

MTDC is a key player in technology commercialisation and in promoting the adoption of technologies by local companies in the country in the last 25 years.

The corporation is actively involved in the business of fund management, incubation, advisory and nurturing services.

According to Uggah, who is also Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Minister, the AVC fund is the brainchild of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg sometime last year.

He said the chief minister has set aside a sum of RM200 million for the fund, which is aimed at helping successful agropreneurs in the state to expand their businesses.

Also present during the visit was his ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Ik Pahon.
